EPISODE 48

Break Up with Booze to Break Through to Your Best Life with Amanda Kuda

Happy New Year my love! We're kicking off 2024 with an amazing and thought-provoking conversation with my friend, author, and alcohol-free lifestyle coach, Amanda Kuda!

Amanda and I met while working with Rochelle Fredston on our book proposals. She recent released her book, Unbottled Potential: Break Up With Alcohol And Break Through To Your Best Life, and her energy for living an alcohol-free life is what drew me to her because at the time I was going through my sober curious journey. She is brilliant and has a magnetic energy about her and is someone I look up to and love being part of her journey. From what started as participating in a Dry January challenge, to now living a life without alcohol, Amanda’s journey of ‘elective sobriety’ is an inspiring and supporting one!

Her journey began when she experienced what she calls a true existential crisis in her mid-20s. She felt like life was checking all the boxes it was supposed to, yet she still felt unfulfilled. This led her to going on a ‘spiritual pilgrimage’ where she did all of the spiritual practices, journaling, meditation, prayer, going to retreats, you name it she did it. But even after doing those things she wasn’t seeing the results she had heard about from her spiritual teachers. Finally, one day it clicked: she had a fear of even entertaining the idea of sobriety because she was afraid of what it might look like to others, and being considered a social outkast. After a lot of work and self-discovery, Amanda challenged herself to a Dry January in 2017 and essentially has never looked back.

“At some point, you'll have to decide that your growth and your potential is more important than your comfort and your fear.”

I think a lot of times there is this stigma around sobriety where it has to be this big crisis situation, and something monumental has to happen when that simply isn’t the case.

It's not about having to hit a rock bottom or having a real addiction problem. Sometimes you just choose to live more consciously and to live more in alignment and want to improve your frequency and get really clear on what you want in your life and be able to show up in that way.

I know for myself, I was feeling the pressure of keeping up, being the perfect mom, the perfect leader in a corporate company that what I looked forward to at the end of the day was a glass of wine and plate of cheese. It was a way I numbed my responsibilities of the day. And so after 10 years of that crap, I am now at the point of taking a deep dive into my life and my intention around alcohol. It has been so freeing and mind-blowing to look back at journals from 2023 when I wasn’t drinking and compare to when I was drinking - I can just tell a difference in myself and the way I show up for myself, my friends and my family.

So my love, whether you're looking at your relationship with alcohol, or not. There are so many tangible takeaways for you and your journey to wholeness and wellness for 2024. I am so excited about what is gonna become possible when I take care of myself in ways that I have never taken care of myself before, and I hope the same for you mama.
