EPISODE 118
Faith Kills Fear: Why Your Perfectionism Is Actually Rebellion Against Divine Design
If God already called you “very good,” why are you still trying to prove it?
Let’s start with a truth that stopped me in my tracks:
“Perfectionism tells us we’re never enough. Faith reminds us we already are.”
That line came from my dear friend Aneta, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since we recorded this conversation.
Because if you’re anything like me — or like the women I work with — you’ve lived most of your life trying to earn your enough-ness. You’ve pushed, performed, achieved, and proved… only to find yourself laying in bed at night, still questioning whether it’s enough. Whether you’re enough.
In this episode of The Unperfected® Pod, we go deep — not just into perfectionism as a mindset, but as a spiritual rupture. A belief that says we’re separate from our worth, our divinity, our truth.
And girl, that’s a lie we’re not carrying anymore.
Aneta and I talked about how perfectionism sneaks into our lives dressed as high standards. As responsibility. As drive. But underneath? It’s often fear. Fear of being seen. Fear of failing. Fear of being judged. Fear of not being lovable unless we’re flawless.
But here’s what cracked me open…
When Aneta was journaling during a hard season, she realized how many times she’d written about fear. Hundreds of entries. But when she looked back, not one of those fears had come true. Instead, what she saw was evidence of support. Evidence of grace. Evidence of being held — even when things were messy.
And that’s the part we forget. When you’ve been raised to believe that being good means being perfect, it can feel rebellious to rest. It can feel dangerous to just be.
But the truth? You were never meant to earn your worth. You were created worthy.
“Very good” was enough for God — why isn’t it enough for us?
This one got me.
Aneta shared a passage from Genesis where God looks at all of creation — the oceans, the mountains, the galaxies — and says it is “very good.”
Not perfect.
Not flawless.
Just very good.
And we, as humans, are part of that creation. Designed with intention. Made in the image of the divine. So who told us we had to be more?
If God looked at the whole damn universe and said, “This is very good,” why are we still standing in the mirror nitpicking our faces, our resumes, our parenting, our productivity?
That’s the core of this episode: it’s not just a mindset shift — it’s a return to truth.
We also talk about how faith isn’t always some big loud thing. Sometimes it’s quiet. Sometimes it’s just you, a journal, a breath, a moment outside in the sun. It’s the voice inside that says, “You’re okay. You’re already enough.”
You don’t have to do it all. You don’t have to prove anything. You’re allowed to rest. You’re allowed to receive.
You’re allowed to be “very good.”
If your soul is tired from trying so hard, I invite you to pause…
What have you been trying to earn that’s already yours?
Let this be the day you put the pressure down and remember who you are.
